The Fondligarten housing cooperative
Founded in 2022, Fondligarten aims for communal, low-impact living. In 2023, the cooperative secured an almost 100-year-old single-family house from the City of Dietikon on a 60-year building lease and renovated it with a focus on sustainability. Only what was necessary was renewed, using natural materials such as clay, hemp, sheep’s wool, and wood. Power and heating come from solar and a heat pump. The natural garden is central to the project and is maintained together.
Residents value the quiet setting and the easy connection to Zürich HB (around 20 minutes by public transport). Many enjoy working outdoors, tending the garden, and occasionally helping at the neighbouring farm. The cooperative is next to Ortoloco at the Fondlihof.
Room available!
- Rent: CHF 1,300/month total for the three room
- 3 rooms in a shared house (room allocation can be swapped between new tenants if preferred)
- Shared spaces: kitchen, bathrooms, cellars, and a living room
- Shared home office: available 2 days/week
- Cooperative share: CHF 30,000 per adult, fully refundable upon moving out
- Participation: all residents sit on the cooperative’s board and share responsibilities (finances, project development, etc.). Board meetings currently take ~1 hour every 1–2 weeks.
