Apartments rented out within 31 minutes: Here's how things went with BG Brunnenrain's replacement building in Zurich Wollishofen

BG Brunnenrain is currently building an excellent looking replacement project on Kalchbühlstrasse in Wollishofen in Zurich Kreis 2. The modern development with 51 apartments will offer top living space at reasonable rental prices. No wonder interest was extremely high. An experience report.

A hidden project

We became aware of the construction project, which is being managed by Laternser Waser AG, some time ago during an intensive search for new construction projects for the cooperatives in Zurich. In fact, we regularly spend hours browsing the Internet for hidden websites about cooperative projects. And of course, we discover lots of interesting construction projects, which we then closely monitor. We then found out that the project was probably being managed by GHP GmbH and asked about the rental there in spring 2025. It was explained to us that the apartments would probably appear on a portal such as Homegate in autumn.

The Brunnenrain building cooperative announces the rental

But then things turned out differently. Instead of in autumn, the Brunnenrain building cooperative website announced in July that the rental would take place on August 4, 2025, from 19:00. The floor plans and future rental prices of the apartments were also available on the cooperative's website. The documents required for the application were also listed. So on July 25, we sent our subscribers a pre-warning email with all important information. We also made it very clear that we were expecting huge crowds and that you should really go online at 19:00.

Only 30 minutes

On August 4, we were pretty nervous after 17:00. With rentals of this type, you never know exactly whether the announced time is really right and whether there may be server problems. We checked the website of Baugenossenschaft Brunnenrain approximately every 2 minutes. The rental started right on time at 19:00, when an application button appeared for each apartment. We immediately alerted our subscribers. Every few minutes, we clicked on the apartments to check whether we could still apply. After about 15 minutes, the maximum number of applications had already been reached for certain apartments. For others, it took a bit longer. Recently, only the 5.5-room apartments, which are a bit more expensive at around 3,000 francs per month, were again available. At 19:31 all apartments were gone. The rental took just under 30 minutes in total. It's definitely a record. We had already seen rentals of around an hour several times, but this project in Wollishofen was really extremely popular.
