Genossenschaftswohnungen in Zürich Oerlikon: Wo sie sind und wie man sie bekommt

Inhaltsverzeichnis:

Oerlikon, which together with Seebach and Affoltern forms District 11 of the city of Zürich, has a lot to offer: a charming center with a vegetable and flower market, various facilities that delight sports fans (for example, one of the best competition indoor pools in Switzerland), Theater 11 for musical enthusiasts, and the MFO-Park for relaxation. And by train you’re 5 minutes from Zürich main station and 5 minutes from Kloten Airport. No wonder the neighborhood is a very popular place to live. We visited several cooperatives’ estates in Oerlikon and present them here. We also explain how to get an affordable apartment from each cooperative.

Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zürich (ABZ)

ABZ estate in Oerlikon
ABZ estate in Oerlikon

ABZ owns several estates in Oerlikon. These include the Oerlikon 1 estate, Regina-Kägi Hof, the Goldregenweg estate, the Jasminweg development, and the Oberwiesen estate. In total, that’s almost 500 apartments that ABZ manages in Oerlikon. Getting one of these apartments takes a lot of perseverance, because ABZ publishes relatively few listings. You can subscribe to their apartment newsletter or use our Suchabo. Not infrequently we send out the listings before ABZ itself!

BAGESTRA

BAGESTRA estate in Oerlikon
BAGESTRA estate in Oerlikon

In Oerlikon, BAGESTRA has a great new estate on Friedackerstrasse and Regensbergerstrasse. The 43 apartments were occupied in 2022 and really feel brand new. The location strikes us as very quiet and family-friendly, and indeed some children were playing in front of the buildings as we passed by. To rent an apartment from BAGESTRA, you need to apply on their website. Fortunately, apartments are advertised regularly at the BAGESTRA—both on their website and on newhome.ch. If you don’t want to check every day, you can use our Suchabo, since you’ll receive all suitable apartments immediately by email.

Baugenossenschaft Brunnenhof Zürich (BBZ)

Baugenossenschaft Brunnenhof Zürich Oerlikon
The new part of BBZ’s Oerlikon estate

This cooperative has its original estate in Oerlikon. Between 2008 and 2022 it was extensively renovated and modernized with replacement new builds. We really liked the new buildings during our visit, and we’re sure it’s a fantastic place to live. To get an apartment with BBZ, you need a lot of luck, as they only rarely advertise. If something becomes available, you’ll find it on their website and on external portals. Of course, we also send out the listings via the Suchabo.

Baugenossenschaft Letten

Baugenossenschaft Letten in Oerlikon

In Oerlikon, this cooperative owns a residential development near Friedheimstrasse. It’s quietly located and borders directly on BAGESTRA’s estate (see above). The location seems really ideal for families. Unfortunately, to our knowledge Baugenossenschaft Letten is currently not accepting new housing applications. However, this may change, so it’s worth checking the website regularly.

Baugenossenschaft Luegisland

Baugenossenschaft Luegisland Oerlikon
New build of Baugenossenschaft Luegisland in Oerlikon

The newest estate of this cooperative is in Oerlikon near Irchelpark. The property, built in 2019, comprises 25 light-filled apartments. If you’re interested in the apartments of Baugenossenschaft Luegisland, you can fill out the rental application form online. Your entry remains valid for one year, and if something suitable becomes available the cooperative will contact you. If you don’t hear anything, you can register again after a year. Unfortunately, we don’t know how often apartments become available.

Gemeinnützige Baugenossenschaft Röntgenhof Zürich (GBRZ)

GBRZ property in Oerlikon
Holunderhof of GBRZ in Oerlikon

GBRZ’s Estate 8, also called Holunderhof, is probably one of our favorite cooperative estates in Zürich. The courtyards with wooden elements and plenty of greenery are real eye-catchers. And the park between the buildings impresses with a generous scale that’s truly second to none. We were immediately thrilled during our visit. But how do you get an apartment in this dream estate? At GBRZ there’s a list of interested parties you can sign up for. Then you have to wait and hope. If something suitable becomes available for you, the cooperative will contact you. After 6 months the entry expires and you have to submit the form again. The process isn’t exactly transparent, so unfortunately we don’t know how often something becomes available.

Siedlungsgenossenschaft Sunnige Hof

Property of Sonnige Hof in Oerlikon
The Krokusdörfli in Oerlikon

In Oerlikon, the cooperative Sunnige Hof owns the Krokusdörfli. This property wasn’t built by them but was acquired as an entire estate in 1997, which is an exception. The Krokusdörfli offers generous 1.5–5.5-room apartments in a very interesting building not far from Irchelpark. To get an apartment with Siedlungsgenossenschaft Sunnige Hof, you should visit their website regularly. That’s where the listings for available apartments are posted. Or you can subscribe to our Suchabo, then you’ll receive the apartments immediately by email and won’t miss a listing. By the way: In our 1-year analysis, Siedlungsgenossenschaft Sunnige Hof ranked 4th among the cooperatives with the most available apartments. So it’s worth keeping an eye on it.

Fazit: In Oerlikon

there are lots of great cooperative apartments!

There are plenty of cooperative apartments in Oerlikon. Here we’ve presented a few great estates that we have personally visited. You’ll find all other cooperatives with locations in Oerlikon on our comprehensive list. For all of them, it takes some patience and luck to get an apartment. With some cooperatives you can add your name to a waiting list; with others you need to check the website regularly. It’s easier with our Suchabo, since you’ll receive suitable apartments directly by email. With around 25 available cooperative apartments per week, there’s usually something for many people.
